Angela Huntington, Lockport High School Education director. "We want to give them the foundational skills that they can take with them to any type of employment they are interested in," said Dr. of Lockport Township School District 205.Īdministrators also say having this coffee shop on campus adds to student’s job skills. “These recent incidents are not the norm for student conduct at East Campus,” the superintendent said."Having coffee, having tea – it adds to the culture and the environment of our building here on east campus," said Dr. Wernet wrote that incidents of fighting at the campus “have not been on the increase from previous years.” Earlier on Thursday, some students at the East Campus had reported to administrators about a gun possibly being brought to the school, which prompted an investigation that included searches of some lockers. Lockport Police and administrators investigated and interviewed several students, including the one who posted the message about weapons possibly being brought to the school Friday, Wernet wrote. In his letter, Wernet said East Campus administrators learned later in the day Thursday of a social media post circulating that students would be retaliating for Thursday’s attack by bringing guns to school on Friday with the post stating it would be white students looking to retaliate against black students at the school. On Thursday, a student at the school was charged by police with aggravated battery after an attack on another student, which followed a fight a week earlier at the East Campus that involved four students. He said that school counselors and social workers also would be available to assist students. In a letter Friday to District 205 families, Wernet said additional police would be at the East Campus through the remainder of the current semester, which ends Dec. Additional police are being posted inside and outside the East Campus of Lockport Township High School District 205 after two fights in the past week among students, according to district Supt.
